RR2010 and the Planet Earth Celebration
Part of Raleigh’s Earth Day, the Planet Earth Celebration (PEC), is a time to honor the 40th (!) anniversary of Earth Day, celebrate sustainability, and meet the many good people, businesses and organizations in our community who are really making it happen.
During the festivities, PEC is hosting a sneak preview of Redress Raleigh 2010.
We need models for the Redress Raleigh Sneak Peek happening this Saturday, April 17th from 2:30 – 2:45pm!!
We are offering the Planet Earth Celebration audience a ‘preview’ of some of the designers who will be featured in that night’s Redress show – a very simple showoff of our designers’ clothing concepts.
This would be a quick and easy way to wear awesome clothes and help out great causes. If you’re interested, please email greenfashionshow@gmail.com for more information!
Thank you!

If you are in the NCSU/Triangle area this Tuesday, stop by the College of Design and see the people of Design Revolution Road Show:
“The Design Revolution Road Show is a traveling exhibition and lecture series bringing “product design that empowers” to 35 high schools and university design programs across the nation in the Spring of 2010. AProject H Design initiative, the road show will feature an Airstream trailer exhibition of 40 humanitarian design solutions that have been showcased in the book Design Revolution: 100 Products that Empower People.
The programming will bring the evidence of and tools for design for social impact to the doorsteps of students, with the ultimate goal of enabling and empowering the next generation of creative problem-solvers to apply their skills to the world’s most pressing problems and improve life on a global scale.”
This is a great way to learn how design can make a difference in a life and eventually change the way our world evolves.
New York Fashion Week is in the Green

This year’s New York Fashion Week included The GreenShows which featured ten eco-friendly collections. The GreenShows were held at Village Green – the first LEED-Gold certified building in East Village-and featured the collections of: Gary Harvey, Vaute Couture, Thieves by Sonja den Elzen, Joann Berman,Willian, Popomomo ,Samantha Pleet, deux fm, House of Organics/Ekovaruhuset and C. Marchuska.
Here are a few of the highlights from the shows:
Gary Harvey, featured creative gowns made entirely of reused materials. These brilliant dresses were crafted from items such as recycled army jackets, wedding dresses, and laundry bags, proved that sustainable design IS high fashion at times.
Vaute Couture showcased the ingenious work of vegan designer Leanne Hilgart Meyer. Using soy bean farming waste, alternative fiber Primaloft ECO, and other green material, Vaute Couture create cruelty-free clothes that are also good for our Mother Earth. Leanne also showcased her brand new men’s line.
And JoAnn Berman rocked the GreenShows Monday night with her reconstructed one off garments made entirely with vintage fabrics. Here is the preview of Autumn/Winter 2010 collection: “Thunderbirds” and its lively execution on the runway was amazing. Her collection drew mainstream media including WWD and Vogue. Also, hear Berman talke about the process of designing one off clothing, worn by the likes of Madonna — in the early days — and Rihanna.
The GreenShows Eco Fashion Week proves that Green is the new Black!
