"HAITI'S NEGLECTED CORNERS"

Kuni Takahashi

On March 20, eight people are landing in Haiti to provide medical care for a community in Citie Soleil, the poorest part of Port au Prince.  Philip Dail from NCSU who along with his wife, Sara, owns Beleza arranged this trip before the earthquake.  He visited Haiti in August and became friends with some awesome people including Pastor Leon Dorleans who directs four community centers there with the support of Haiti Outreach Ministries.  These eight people include three doctors, two nurses, a second year medical school student as well as Philip and Randy Wiersma.  Philip and Randy are the team leaders and they formed a nonprofit last year, Together We Can, Inc, to make it easy for this kind of work to be supported by people who want to help.

Right now the team must purchase all the medical supplies needed and take these with them to Haiti.  Any size donation is much appreciated.  All the people going are paying their own expenses so the donations will be used to pay for medications and do anything needed when the team arrives.

People can donate over the counter medications needed.  These include:

  • any type of multvitamins especially chewable for children,
  • chloropehniramine (Chlor Trimeton),
  • acetaminophen drops for children and tablets,
  • bacitracin triple antibiotics,
  • Benadryl tablets,
  • ibuprofen tablets,
  • Tylenol chewables, tylenol tablets,
  • hydrocortisone ointment/cream,
  • and glucometers with accompanying test strips.

Donations can be sent to Together We Can, Inc, 2014 Cameron Street, Raleigh, NC  27605.
