About Us

morMorLove was founded in the summer of 2006 by Mor Aframian, then a student at North Carolina State University. Influenced by her textile professors and a desire to ‘give back’, Mor brainstormed a way to make design sustainable and provide tangible value for those in need.

Her idea was evolutionary, simple and gathered a great deal of support from the community. Why not “repurpose” discarded items into things people can really use? The idea took hold and MorLove.org was born.

To test her concept, Mor started with a school project. Over 50 college students learned to refashion recycled clothing, linens, and fabric sources to create new garments, household items, and jewelry. The project gave students a venue to hone their skills.

A turning point in the evolution of her concept came in March of 2007. Mor assisted Philip and Sara Dail in collecting and loading seven tons of clothing, schoolbooks, linens, towels, and shoes into a container ship bound for the Vision Valley, in Madagascar. After arriving in May 2007, the container of items was distributed to the school and destitute families throughout the area with the final distribution taking place by helicopter to remote villages not accessible by roads.

This opened her eyes to what she could do and, in March, 2008, over 400 people attended Second Chance New Life, a benefit sponsored by MorLove. That event raised $1350 for the Amani Baby Cottage in Jinja Uganda, which houses orphaned and abandoned children. Garments, jewelry, artwork, and other accessories made from the recycled garments and fabrics were sold at a show held at the North Carolina State University College of Textiles. Proceeds were given to the orphanage.

Building on growing interest, MorLove raised another $1500 and loaded another container with 13,000 pounds of donated items destined for Uganda. The container included 26,000 items of children’s clothing, shoes, bedding and towels and art supplies. Since that time, multiple fundraisers have been staged, including Redress Raleigh, an eco-fashion show.

With this experience, MorLove has begun expanding its aid to Haiti and elsewhere real assistance is needed. Whether it’s looking to donate your skills, time, money or love, we hope you get involved.
